Chinese President Xi Jinping has initiated his visit to Cairo by advocating for stronger ties and expanded collaboration with Egypt, underscoring the enduring relationship that has persisted between the two nations. Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his spouse upon their arrival, as the visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt.

In a statement issued prior to his trip, Xi emphasized the resilience of the China-Egypt relationship despite shifts in the global landscape. He urged both nations to reinvigorate their comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration. Xi asserted that as both countries are pursuing significant national development objectives, they should synchronize their strategies to achieve mutual progress. He advocated for enhanced cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, particularly focusing on practical projects that promise long-term economic advantages.

The Chinese leader also proposed expanded collaboration in fields such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology, suggesting that such exchanges would foster deeper mutual understanding and fortify the bonds between the peoples of both countries. Xi highlighted the importance of continuous mutual support on critical issues and safeguarding shared interests, noting Egypt’s vital role in bolstering China’s relations with Arab nations and the African continent.

Xi underscored the significance of both countries as key players within the Global South, advocating for enhanced coordination on international matters, increased support for multilateral cooperation, and joint endeavors to advance global peace and stability. The visit is anticipated to further solidify political and economic ties between Beijing and Cairo, unlocking new opportunities for cooperation across sectors such as trade, infrastructure, and technology.

Concluding his remarks, Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt in building on their seven-decade-long diplomatic relationship, aiming to infuse fresh momentum into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
