China has called on Japan to address what it perceives as inappropriate remarks and actions by Japanese leaders concerning Taiwan. This appeal was made by China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, during a meeting in Beijing with Takeshi Iwaya, the president of the Japan Association for the Promotion of International Trade.

In the meeting, Wang emphasized the need for Japan to adopt a more objective and rational stance towards China, particularly in handling sensitive historical issues. He highlighted the significance of maintaining the political foundation of China-Japan relations and underscored the importance of learning from historical lessons. Wang also urged Japan to commit to peaceful development and refrain from actions that might exacerbate tensions between the two nations.

Takeshi Iwaya acknowledged the concerns expressed by Wang regarding the current state of Japan-China relations. He assured that his organization would continue to facilitate dialogue and support efforts aimed at stabilizing bilateral ties.

The meeting underscores the ongoing complexities in the diplomatic relationship between China and Japan, with Taiwan being a particularly sensitive topic. Both nations have a shared interest in maintaining stable relations, yet longstanding historical and territorial issues continue to pose challenges.

As China presses for clarity and correction of Japan’s position on Taiwan, it remains crucial for both countries to engage in constructive dialogue to navigate their differences and foster regional stability.
