Following the latest round of economic and trade consultations in New York, China and the United States have reached a consensus on several key issues, including tariffs, trade, and investment cooperation. This marks the eighth round of discussions between the two nations, focusing on mutual economic concerns and potential collaboration.

During these consultations, representatives from both countries engaged in detailed discussions, resulting in agreements on reciprocal tariff reductions and the establishment of trade and investment councils. They also decided to extend arrangements that were previously agreed upon during talks in Kuala Lumpur, demonstrating a continued commitment to strengthening economic ties.

Notably, these talks included the first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the bilateral economic and trade consultation framework. The discussions on AI-related issues were led by Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. This new area of focus highlights the evolving nature of the bilateral relationship and the importance of cooperation in emerging technologies.

Both sides have expressed their intention to maintain communication and continue working on the agreed arrangements through the existing economic and trade consultation mechanism. This ongoing dialogue underscores the significance of collaboration between the two largest economies in addressing global economic challenges and fostering a stable international trade environment.
