China and the United States have agreed to reduce tariffs on approximately $30 billion worth of goods from each side, following their recent economic and trade discussions. This consensus marks a significant step in easing trade tensions between the two global powers.

The agreement stipulates that tariffs on about 90% of the products covered will be lowered to most-favoured-nation rates. These tariff reductions will take effect once both countries complete their respective domestic procedures, ensuring a simultaneous implementation.

In addition to the tariff reductions, China and the US have decided to extend their existing economic and trade arrangement from November 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. This extension will allow both nations to continue negotiations for a more comprehensive, long-term agreement.

To further enhance bilateral trade relations, the two countries will establish a Board of Trade aimed at strengthening trade discussions. An agricultural working group will also be formed to address market access and regulatory issues, highlighting the importance of agriculture in their trade relations.

The agreement includes the creation of a bilateral investment board to explore investment opportunities, tackle trade barriers, and promote policy transparency. This initiative underscores the commitment of both nations to foster a more open and cooperative investment environment.

Furthermore, China and the United States will continue their discussions on artificial intelligence, with another round of talks scheduled before the end of November. As part of this effort, a new communication channel will be established to address AI-related incidents, reflecting the growing significance of AI in the global economy.
