China’s foreign trade sector has experienced significant growth in the initial eight months of the year. The total value of imports and exports has reached an impressive 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion, reflecting a robust 17.6% increase compared to the previous year. This surge is attributed to both exports and imports showing considerable gains.
Specifically, exports have risen by 14.6%, amounting to 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports have demonstrated an even stronger growth of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan. This trend of growth in trade activities has continued to gain momentum, especially noticeable in the month of August.
In August alone, the total value of goods imported and exported soared by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. During this period, exports climbed by 18.6%, whereas imports saw a 21.7% increase. This consistent upward trajectory highlights the resilience and dynamism of China’s trade sector amid global economic challenges.
Notably, both exports and imports have achieved double-digit growth on a year-on-year basis for four consecutive months. Importantly, for the last six months, the growth rate of imports has consistently outpaced that of exports. This pattern underscores the increasing domestic demand within China, which is driving the rise in imports.
