During a diplomatic visit to Kyrgyzstan, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s dedication to deepening ties with Central Asian nations. The visit emphasized regional cooperation and multilateral coordination as top priorities. Wang Yi engaged in discussions with leaders and foreign ministers from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, centering around enhancing collaboration through platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the China–Central Asia mechanism, and the United Nations.
In Kyrgyzstan, China pledged its support for the upcoming hosting of the SCO Bishkek Summit, emphasizing its commitment to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both nations agreed on the importance of strengthening coordination in maintaining regional peace, security, and development. This visit illustrates China’s intention to bolster its strategic alliances in Central Asia, a region pivotal for its Belt and Road Initiative.
Discussions with Uzbekistan highlighted the significance of progressing with the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway, a project seen as crucial for enhancing connectivity in the region. The dialogue also focused on broadening cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, and modern industrial development. These sectors are seen as vital for the economic transformation and modernization of the region.
Meanwhile, China and Tajikistan reiterated their commitment to reinforcing bilateral relations, focusing on expanding practical cooperation in energy and regional connectivity. This commitment follows the signing of a long-term friendship and cooperation treaty earlier this year, which set the stage for further collaboration and mutual support between the two countries.
The visit underscored China’s growing strategic partnership with Central Asia, highlighting a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, trade, technological innovation, and regional stability. By strengthening its ties with these nations, China aims to play a pivotal role in the region’s economic and geopolitical landscape, fostering an environment of shared growth and stability.
