Trump: Iran’s Military Is Destroyed — Now It Must Accept Peace or Face Worse

by admin477351

President Donald Trump painted a grim picture of Iran’s military position on Thursday, declaring the country had been “militarily obliterated” and asserting that it had no realistic path to recovery. From this position of claimed weakness, Trump argued, Iran should be eager to accept the US ceasefire proposal rather than stalling for time. His Truth Social post was provocative, urgent, and clearly designed to push Tehran toward a decision.

The US ceasefire plan spans 15 points and includes some significant incentives for Iran, including the lifting of economic sanctions, a scaling back of its nuclear programme, limits on its missile capabilities, and the restoration of normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. That waterway carries nearly a fifth of global oil supplies and is a crucial element of any peace arrangement. Iran has rejected the proposal, a move Trump characterized as deeply misguided given the country’s current circumstances.

Iran has outlined its own peace conditions through state media, including demands for the protection of its officials from targeted attacks, formal assurances against future conflict, war damage compensation, and internationally recognized sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. These demands reflect Tehran’s perspective that any fair settlement must include acknowledgment of the damage it has suffered. The two frameworks are far apart in their assumptions and priorities.

The human toll of the conflict is enormous. Over 1,500 Iranians and nearly 1,100 Lebanese nationals have been killed, while dozens have died in Israel and across the region. Thirteen American service members have also been killed, and the displacement of millions of civilians in Iran and Lebanon has created a humanitarian crisis.

Trump’s Thursday post left no room for ambiguity: Iran must choose peace now or face a future that will be far worse. Military operations continue unabated on multiple fronts, underscoring the urgency of a diplomatic breakthrough. Whether Tehran chooses to engage or dig in will define the next chapter of this conflict.
