During his recent visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for ecological conservation and sustainable development in China. His inspection included visits to the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve and the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, underlining the importance of environmental protection and technological advancement.

At Huangqihai Lake, Xi assessed the ongoing efforts to combat the threats posed by climate change and other pressures that had previously led the lake to the brink of drying up. He highlighted the success of conservation measures that have been implemented to restore and expand the lake’s water body. Xi urged the enforcement of China’s wetland protection law, the preservation of biodiversity, and the maintenance of strict ecological protection boundaries. He advocated for prioritizing natural restoration in degraded wetlands, complemented by scientific intervention when necessary.

In the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, Xi reviewed the progress of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This project aims to optimize the distribution of computing resources across the nation. Xi stressed the importance of completing current projects on schedule and ensuring the efficient operation of existing infrastructures. He called for environmentally friendly and safe computing infrastructure to bolster China’s digital economy and support sustainable development.

During his visit, Xi also engaged with local agricultural and livestock sectors, encouraging officials to better connect production with markets. This initiative aims to boost the incomes of farmers and herders, thereby supporting local economies in the region.

Xi’s visit to Inner Mongolia underscores his administration’s commitment to integrating ecological conservation with technological and economic development, reflecting a broader strategy to achieve sustainable growth across China.
